Food for Thought
“ Intellect is the eventual outcome of a human lifetime of research,
reading, writing and meditating. The aim of intellectual input
is to yield ideas, and writing to guide others in their endeavour
to achieve a happy life; therefore it aims to give rather than take,
to encourage rather than to inhibit; to persist rather than to surrender
and to lead rather than wait to be managed “

I knew Ali Al Matboona during the time that he studied at the Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. He enrolled on the MA Human Resource Management programme as a full-time student in 2008, completing his dissertation and graduating in 2009. I taught him on this programme and advised him about his dissertation.
Ali was a hard-working and reliable student who was liked and admired by tutors and his fellow students. Despite being a mature student who had not studied formally for some years and having English has his second language, by working diligently and participating fully in academic activities, he managed to pass the degree programme with some comfort and trust.
Ali was on secondment in Manchester from the Dubai Police where he had been working in various management roles for some years. He brought this experience with him on to our MA programme and was able to share it fruitfully with his fellow students.
Since his return to Dubai he has specialised in training and development matters, taking on some senior roles, gaining some further qualifications and publishing his own original research.
Ali is a thoughtful and likeable man who is interested in a wide range of subjects of contemporary and historical interest. Like all my colleagues I wish him every success for the future.

I have met Mr. Ali Abdullah Al Matboona, while he was pursuing he’s postgraduate study in England in September 2006. In this time, he was looking for an academic researcher in order to out weight a proper instrument to be applied in his study thesis. Since then, our relationship got grow on a professional and personal basis. Few years later, we have collaborated closely on several research projects while he served as an officer for Dubai Police General Headquarters, acting as administrator at departmental and supervisory level for about three decades.
During his service at Dubai Police, Ali Has been involved lecturing and research projects on policing and business studies, particularly, human resources and quality management practices. He has the ability to achieve success in whatever field of endeavour he should choose, besides, his affiliation with some professional bodies enable him to establish a variety administrative systems and to provide an effective mechanism for enforcing rules and regulations. This considerable effort entitled him to become a recognized expert on developing creative processes in the workplace.
I have a high respect for Mr. Al Matboona in every facet of his life. He is diligent, results-driven professional and a very talented scholar who is truly committed to enlightenment through learning and lifelong education. His top academic achievement as a scholar serves to elevate his perspective and performance on a day-to-day basis in all of his undertakings. He has a natural talent for teaching, and for distilling highly complex or nebulous abstractions into clear and understandable concepts, ensuring full understanding, and inspiring learning within others.
Having traveled to, lived in and worked in so many countries gave him the ability to flourish in an international environment. This wide range of world culture/ He was greatly influenced by the great attention given by developed countries to human development as a priority that achieves the long-term planning for future development of nations and the well-being of their peoples. This Strategy has given him the ability to enrich an understanding of the standards of excellence in the international environment in the field of human development by which nations can create their well-being and glory.
These outstanding attributes are all supported by a sure foundation of unquestionable integrity and deep personal values. Ali Al Matboona has great respect and tolerance for others. He exhibits all the virtues I would seek in a researcher, a lecturer, and a friend.

From the first moment, I was impressed with Ali’s sincere desire to learn, his determination to continue scientific research, and his enthusiasm for devoting his time and effort to achieving significant results. This can be noted in the light of his accomplishment in two areas, the first being the research study that he submitted, making a comparison between the Dubai Police organization in the UAE and the National Health Service of England. with regard to organizational justice in the grievance system of the two organizations; and secondly, when he was given the opportunity to join the National Health Service environment to complete his work placement.
I have noticed how Ali is keen to illustrate a variety of skills in his work performance, and these skills serve to emphasize his excellence in learning, for example attentive listening, concern with precise detail, and continuing to ask questions in a manner that aims for mastery of the management and conduct of things. This is the case for every highly-motivated person who wishes to delve deeper into his field of study as well as his work.
Despite the short period of training that Ali spent in our organization, I found that he played a significant role in the strategy for organizational change and effectiveness. This was at the core of my work and was the focus of my attention. We had an in-depth discussion about the importance of change in developing service sector organizations, specifically with regard to two well-known publications by John Kotter, namely: Leading Change (1998) and The Heart of Change (2002).
Today, several years later, I have no doubt about Ali’s ability to succeed, especially since I have seen his work, which has significant importance in human resources management applications. He has the skills of an accomplished researcher, including the attribute of objectivity towards the thesis, and he has the ability to achieve excellent results in the field of management studies, thanks to his scientific qualification, and his long experience in the field of policing. In short, I wish him the best in looking forward to achieving his goals and the continued success of his tasks in the near future.
