Change is an inevitable part of life, and implementing and managing change is an inevitable part of police leadership. Contemporary police organizations are striving for excellence and professionalism in their operation as well as their management nowadays, and adopting organizational change in the police field presents enormous challenges, since it might confront staff resistance to the approach.
The change required in a police organization is often considered by the police membership to be radical even when it is relatively minor in nature. This is due to the police culture, which attempts to resist change and maintain the status quo, and this culture is extremely difficult to manage. In addition to introduced change, the society and the communities in which the police operate are constantly changing and at a rapid rate.
Therefore, and on the grounds of the importance of managing change in police organizations, I decided to work on this task scientifically. In this book, I tried to construct a general picture of an essential component of organizational change strategy that needs to be developed within the policing activities of the Dubai Police. The book contains six major chapters: the first reviews the change management system in the Dubai Police; the second focuses on the basic principles of change management; the third illustrates the importance of planned change; the fourth discusses the major role of leadership in the change journey; the fifth draws on the need for well-established departments for change processes, the sixth shows the effective teamwork for leading change.
This publication was my first attempt to publish a book, and I have received strong support from His Excellency Lieutenant General / Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, the Head of General Security for the Emirate of Dubai, so, I consider myself highly privileged to have this opportunity.
