The author has read many books, reviewed a lot of articles about motivation, and eventually realised that this topic is crucial nowadays. However he still feels that he needs to explore learning motivation more and more, since this vital factor is in the blood stream of our society, work and life. Nevertheless, publishing his motivation book was an excellent opportunity for considering the book as an ongoing training guide.
In any organization, most employees are naturally motivated, but may not have an opportunity to express their words, to present their skills or to illustrate their talents. An organization does not therefore need to provide them with motivation, but rather to create a window of opportunity for them to start showing their great potential to foster the organization’s growth.
Leaders in organizations play a key role in managing employee motivation. Dynamic leaders should distinguish between the motives of employees and their behaviour, so leaders need to be well aware of dealing with behaviour, not motives. If an employee is consistently late and his supervisor is unwilling to tolerate such behaviour, and wants to impose consequences, it is up to the employee to deal with the motives behind it.
In this book, the author illustrates the importance of motivation in the public sector, and he discusses six aspects which deeply affect workplace motivation, these are; the principal concepts of motivation; the key theories that establish a motivated environment; applications of motivational systems in the workplace; the relationship between theory and practice; strategies for applying motivation, and the role of leadership in creating a suitable environment that encourages people to be motivated and enthusiastic.
